DIRECTV's new satellite DIRECTV 11 is launched into the space from Pacific Ocean-based Sea Launch platform today. DIRECTV 11
along with DIRECTV 10 will provide enough bandwidth to deliver 150 national and 1,500 local high-definition channels and expand its
local HD channels in 100 markets, representing 84 percent of U.S. TV households. Country's leading satellite television provider is
also planning to launch another satellite by 2009. The new satellite will take at least two months to deliver signals for DIRECTV to
deliver high-definition programming to its customers.
“Our new DIRECTV 11 satellite will soon join its sister satellite in orbit to form the most robust HD delivery system in the multichannel
video industry and will be instrumental in maintaining DIRECTV’s position as the undisputed leader in HD for years to come,” said
Derek Chang, executive vice president, Content Strategy and Development, DIRECTV, Inc.
