DIRECTV organized an airborne extravaganza on December 20 and 22, 2007, flying a blimp over a few areas in the Orlando, Florida area. The goal was to let people know about the satellite tv provider’s free NFL Network programming.
The blimp designers went to town with a 70 x 30 foot full color monitor to relay DIRECTV’s important message! Why, you might ask, did DIRECTV go to such lengths? Well, cable companies like Bright Networks in that area of Florida don’t offer the NFL Network, so their customers miss out on important games. And we all know how big a sport football is in our country and what a disappointment it is to not be able to watch its best games.
DIRECTV includes Thursday night football action free with all Choice programming packages and up. So the blimp was DIRECTV’s flying advertisement to let Floridians know about its superb football coverage. Broadcasting the sport across the clear blue sky brought marketing to new heights, both literally and figuratively!
