In December, 2007 DIRECTV, Inc., the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) made a landmark decision to join forces with the goal of making even more quality public television available in High Definition (HD).
This will affect such programs as The NewsHour, Frontline, NOVA, American Masters, the American Experience, Bill Moyers' Journal and award-winning children's programming. Imagine how detailed the screen will be when watching Nova’s spectacular programming on space, exploration, nature, health, history, technology and more. The already vivid picture is sure to be even more lifelike in HD!
This means that in every market where DIRECTV carries any local HD (72% of the country and 68 market areas), PBS and local Public Television stations will be available. Moreover, there will soon be a library of on demand content from local stations across the country, making programming available to the public on their own schedule. Public television is now catching up with DIRECTV’s innovative technology and the latest trends in the market, and the outcome is sure to be exciting.
