It's time for another blog about "Big Brother" on CBS on Satellite TV. To read my last blog entry, click here. As for today's blog:
I don’t think I’ve ever witnessed a more satisfying episode of “Big Brother.” Last night’s episode was, without a doubt, the icing on the cake to why I love this show so much. It may have taken awhile, but I finally got the payoff I was waiting for – meathead Jessie was cut down to size and evicted from the house.
We all knew that last night was the last opportunity Jeff has to use the power of coup d’etat. He just has to use, I was thinking all week. He just has to. But I was worried he might not. In fact, I was preparing myself for him not using it. After all, it wouldn’t be the first time on this show that the editing led you to believe a houseguest was going to do something, only to have them do the complete opposite.
So I waited as we went through our usual Thursday night eviction routine. Everyone in the house seemed positive that Jeff had the power (Chima said she was 99.9 % sure he had it) but still no one knew just exactly what having this power entailed, or if the holder would even use it. Out of everyone, Jessie was the most disturbed about the looming Wizard threat, mostly because he knew that if Jeff had it and had a chance to boot him, he probably would. Jessie’s still sore at Russell for not picking him for Veto and giving him a chance to fight for his life in the house. Whatever, get over it.
Interestingly enough, the eviction episode is usually taped live, though last night they taped it several hours earlier. Word is Chima threatened to flip out and disrupt production if anyone messed with her HOH nominations, so I would think they decided to prerecord in preparation of a curse-filled, venomous rant that they would have to edit. Julie Chen went through the motions of interviewing Chima on her last day as HOH, and then she brought it down to the living room. She then reminded the houseguests about the mystery power, and asked the holder of said power to stand if they wanted to use it. Then, in a glorious moment that really needed a choir of angels, Jeff rose off the couch. Jordan’s mouth dropped open and stayed open for at least the next five minutes. Julie explained the power (you could see Chima doing everything in her power not to cut someone as a tight, fake smile spread across her face) and then Julie asked Jeff if he would like to take Lydia off the block. “I would,” replied Jeff, and a stunned Lydia took her seat on the couch. And who would Jeff be replacing her with? Natalie. Awesome. One down, one to go. Did Jeff want to take Russell off the block as well? (at this point I’m still convinced Russell thought he was going home.) “I would,” uttered Jeff, and I just about cheered. And who would be taking Russell’s place? Jeff didn’t even have to say the words – he just glanced in Jessie’s direction and said “Sorry buddy.” In an odd moment, Jessie pulled off his sweatshirt to reveal a tee shirt underneath with a picture of himself (shirtless, of course) with the caption "The Man, The Myth, The Legend". Yes, it’s true, the guy wears a tee shirt that pimps out his own self-assigned legacy - this just solidifies my desire to say “Sayonara” to him once and for all. The only thing that would have made it juicier would be if Jessie hadn’t seen it coming and was completely blindsided. Or if Jeff had used Jessie's famous line to Casey: "Move your feet, cuz you got a new seat."
Just the sight of ego-twins Jessie and Natalie seated beside each other on the block (neither one of them has been nominated before this point), with only a few minutes to let it all sink in before they are evicted, was a portrait of beauty. It’s time for the vote. Russell and Lydia vote to keep Jessie, with the majority voting to oust him. And just like that, Jessie is yanked out of the house. That's two years in a row now that Jessie has gotten screwed by America. I wonder if he's gotten the point yet that nobody thinks he's as awesome as he thinks he is?
The HOH competition was fairly quick, with houseguests answering questions in twos, and the one with the wrong answer was immediately eliminated. Michele won by default (Jeff got the answer wrong when everyone else was eliminated, so there was no one else to go up against) and Chima was elated. What Chima doesn’t realize is that Michele probably won’t put up Jeff and Jordan. Michele has nothing against either one of them, and surely would want to see Russell gone before them. My guess for her nominations – she’ll put up Russ with either Lydia or Natalie and Jeff and Jordan will be safe another week. We’ll find out on Sunday. In the meantime, I’m going to watch Jessie’s eviction a few more times just to let the satisfaction soak in.
