Doesn't it just irritate the heck out of you when a company promises one thing then turns around and does the exact opposite. This scenario is being played out in Quincy, Illinois by cable giant Comcast. According to an article in the Quincy Herald Whig Comcast had emphatically stated that they had no plans to raise their rates after their take over of Insight Communications in January.
Evidently folks didn't realize what Comcast meant by the the words " no plans to increase prices at this time". Should you take the meaning of the Comcast statement literally, namely the words "at this time" then Comcast was true to their word. The didn't raise their rates on the day they issued their statement back in December 07'. They actually waited three months before they informed their newly acquired cable customers about their plans to increase their cable tv rates.
Comcast subscribers to standard cable which includes basic and expanded basic cable will now have to pay $48.50 per month beginning April 2, 2008. That's a $3.00 increase or roughly the price of a gallon of milk insome areas of the country. In addition the cost for premium channels will also increase. Did I forget to mention that this increase doesn't reflect the additional higher rates for the franchise fee and the Federal Communication Commission Fee.
One final note. A question if you will. What is Comcast giving it's cable customers in Quincy in return for increasing their rates?.
