This season the Discovery Channel brought their viewers a new and intriguing series called Fight Quest. This series follows two youn combatants Jimmy Smith a mixed martial arts fighter and youngster (25 yrs.old) Doug Anderson as they travel the globe in search of various fighting styles.
In each episode Jimmy and Doug are seperated and trained both physically and mentally by the best of the best (which would be the local master) in each of the fighting forms they are attempting to learn. They learn both form and technique. In China they learned Kung fu while in Mexico it was boxing. At the end of their learning session the guys reunite and individually take on seasoned fighters in a match (may the best man win) of the form they just learned. Sometimes they win and other times they get a severe butt kicking. All fights are real and they have the bruises to prove it.
While I am not a fan of any type of fighting sport I must say that I was intrigued by Fight Quest and hooked after the first episode. Made sure to set the DVR to record the series. The show does have it's share of violence although I must say I've seen worse on the evening news.. I never knew there were so many complex yet at the same time simple fighting techinques out there.
Hopefully the Discovery Channel was able to pull in a large viewing audience for Fight Quest and will consider bringing it back for many more season if they haven;t already done so.
