America's TV is going digital (DTV)!
You could say it’s the biggest change by far in the industry since the development of color TV! And by February 17, 2009 it will be the law! All U.S. television broadcasting will be digital (DTV), referring to broadcasting via the 1,600 larger networks. The government is making this momentous decision for several reasons. The Digital Television Transition and Public Safety Act (DTV Act) is part of President Bush’s Deficit Reduction Act. By September 30, 2009 the Secretary of the Treasury will transfer $7.363 billion from Digital TV Transition and Public Safety Fund to the general fund of the Treasury. This will free up frequencies for public safety communications.

How does DTV affect you and your TV?
By upgrading your TV to digital your screen image will be sharper and the sound quality much improved. For those with digital TVs already, there will be no difference. Moreover, customers who subscribe to DIRECTV's satellite service and already receive digital programming will also not be affected.

Say you have an analog TV and don’t subscribe to a satellite company. The government will provide two coupons valued at $40 each per household to upgrade to digital TV via a digital-to-analog converter box. All of this is meant to help with the transition to DTV. Another more expensive option is to buy a digital-ready TV. But, even if you spend your hard-earned money on a new digital TV, unless your cable TV company is providing a digital signal - and many do not - or they charge more for digital cable - you will be out of luck.

DIRECTV has always been 100% digital!
Why take the hard road to digital TV? DIRECTV, with its reliable satellite technology, has been digital all along. Digital TV is nothing new to DIRECTV’s over 16 million subscribers! It’s well-known that digital television provides a much clearer image and is less prone to blurring or outages. In other words, it’s free of those frustrating problems of analog TV and visually is a much better experience!

DIRECTV’s 100% digital quality and 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound make DIRECTV very appealing. The TV provider also excels in customer service, this year winning the J. D. Power & Associates highest ranking in three of four areas of the country.
