Do you have upn network

UPN shut down on September 15, 2006, and merged with The WB to form The CW Television Network. CW is considered a local station. DIRECTV carries Local Stations in 94% of the USA. CLick on our local station link to see what channel it is in your area, or call us at 1-800-431-1221

I think that Directv is great.I was a Dish customer before but didn't like the two antenna setup for HD reception and that at the time could not get HD on local stations.Customer Service is great and helpful.Glad I switched.

There is a world of difference in the customer service of DIRECTV and DISHNET.
DISH is horrible, DIRECT is fantastic.

DISHNET could easliy win the award for worst customer service in the USA. I could never call without hearing at least once how much longer I had on my contract.
When the contract was out, I was glad to switch to DIRECTV. That was two years ago ans I have had NO problems.

I have had both, each for many years. I recently returned to DirecTV. Boy am I glad. I should have done so two years ago, especially after what transpired after I discontinued Dish service. Here are just a few reasons DirecTV is superior.
1. DirecTV uses only one roof satellite receiver for local channels. Dish, in areas, requires two dish satellite receivers on the roof to receive local channels. I tried for years, purchasing three TV antennae, to get reliable local TV reception; to no avail. I could not get the Dish second roof top receiver because of my neighbor’s trees.
2. DirecTV includes local channels in their price. You pay extra with Dish.
3. DirecTV HD DVR will record two HD channels at once. Dish records two channels at once, but only one is HD.
4. DirecTV receiver stays on if you leave it on. If the Dish receiver is left on, the picture is replaced in the middle of the night with an annoying Dish logo on the screen. So, if you want to record a Dish recorded program to your VCR or DVD during that period, your program is replaced with the Dish logo.
5. DirecTV has at least two weeks of programming information on their system. Dish programming is limited to one week.
6. DirecTV DVR has output options for HDMI, component and two analog AV outputs that operate simultaneously. Dish has HDMI, component and one analog.
7. Dish has a policy, as I unfortunately discovered, that destroys your personal property if you mistakenly return your expensive DVD/hard drive recorder instead of their receiver. Both were out of my media tower and looked almost the same, and I just hastily grabbed the wrong one. They just destroyed it, without any notification, or giving me any opportunity to even pay for it's return. I noticed their receiver, a week after the mistake, but they had already destroyed my equipment. They have consistently, and adamantly refused to compensate me. Yet, I returned their receiver, or my credit card would have been charged. I have No recourse. I certainly would not trust such a company that treats people this way!

Wow, I, too, had issue #7 with Dish, I thought I was the ONLY one! I mistakenly returned a COMPLETELY different product by Dell and Dish did the EXACT same thing and acted the EXACT same way. I was FURIOUS! I don't believe when they say they "destroy" it, I think someone in receiving just gets very lucky sometimes. I really can't stand them, but until DirecTV gets the Free Speech Network, I'm stuck.

I live in Portland Oregon, I have Dish network and like others in my area are in the middle of a fight between Dish and Fisher Broadcasting. At first I decided, I'll wait it out. Retrans agreements are negotiated all the time, from time to time stations will go dark for a short time. I am still waiting almost a month later. What bothers me the most is they called me about 7-10 days prior to the contract ending and offered me "because I was such a good customer" free HBO for 3 months if I sign another 2 year contract. Then this happens. I feel that they are in breach of their contract and want out. I also spent over $50 for over the air attenna's to receive ABC and due to where I live, I get it intermittently (as long as the wind is not blowing) due to the forest between me and Portland. I can't get rebroadcast from another city with major expenses to file waivers and waiting months and will probably be told no. Every time I ask Dish for compensation I get told you are getting $1. I asked for something toward the money I spent to fix their problem. I get nothing. I ask to be released from the contract and go back to month to month so I can figure out what I am going to do, I get told I have to talk to the cancellation department. They say they will discuss cancelling my service but I have to give them a credit card in case there are fees. If I cancel and they don't like it they will bill me hundreds of dollars. And give me no time to get another service up. I have no attenna that will work and no cable to fall back on. I am hoping to find a DirecTV installer that also works with Dish so they can install one and remove the other. Maybe then I can get out of this convaluted mess, Dish can have their equipment back and I won't be charged fees. The last reason I stuck with Dish so long, I travel frequently (not full time yet) in a 5th wheel RV, I purchased another dish ($100), cabling and stands so when I am traveling I can get the TV I am paying for. DirecTV at the time said I could not travel with their service. I just unplug my receiver put it in my trailer and hook it up when I get their. I am usually only away a week or two at a time 5 or 6 times a a year but they wanted me to pay for roaming service. If I switch now I will have to pay for roaming service plus another dish. I am getting a headache. I guess I just need to take a deep breath and take the plunge. Wish me luck. Thanks for letting me vent. L - Rural Oregon City, Oregon

I had Dish for three Days, lost picture during Rain storm and it newer came back.I canceled contract and they charged me $240 early termination fee.I am glad I did not canceled Direct TV

Since one of our locals is in contract conflict with Dish, we are no longer viewing our 1st choice network. Hmmmmm. Maybe Dish will give us a 25% discount on our monthly bill since we do not have 25% viewing any longer! What an idea. 'Guess I'll call 'em. Or maybe it's time to go Direct TV!

No, we don't get 25% off we get $1.00 per month off - wow! We are looking at switching also as they don't have a date to have us back on ABC and don't even know for sure that they won't be permanently dropping ABC!

Wow reading these comments is funny cause i have had dish for 2 yre and i just got direct and im loving it already I will never have dish again as they have jerked me around so much!Something is always going wrong with my satelite and then i have to call them out they try to charge me everytime they come out what bs anyway happy to be a direct customer now

Well lets see where should I start????

I Registered for Dish Sunday got confirmation and called only to have them say they never recieved my order. Re-ordered over the Phone, only to have them cheat me out of the extra $30 Instant One time credit, but they felt they were doing me a favor with the $50 Credit which is Standard. After going back and Fourth I finally gave in and just took the $50 instead of the $80. They were to come on Wednesday between 8 and Noon. Come Tuesday they called and said they would come out at Noon to 5pm. I couldnt deal with that time since I live at a Funeral Home and we had a service that night, so he switched to Thursday and compensated me with the original $30 which once again he thought he was doing me a favor, but in reality it was the original deal that I should have gotten from the start. So come Thursday the Tech came at Noon and he was talking about charges of $5.98 per Reciever since I didnt want it hooked to a Phoneline, so that would have increased the Quoated price of $64.99 to 76.95, plus they had me listed with the America 200 package when I ordered the America Top 250 Package, he said oh thats another $10, so your looking at $86.95. Then I said how about the Max for 12 mos for a Penny? He said hmmmm? I dont see that so its not offered. I said ok you needto call customer service and get me a Manager. He did and when the manager came on he gave me his Operator ID then after explaining he hung up and I politely told the ech to LEAVE! and THATS MY STORY TO YOU..... STAY AWAY FROM DISH NETWORK! THEY BLEEP

The reason you are under contract is because of the expensive equipment you are given upfront for free. Why would they give you 4 receivers (valued at $500/ea) and not place you under some sort of obligation? That's $2,000 worth of electronics and the next week you decide to cancel and you don't return the equipment and there is no contract...they'd be out of business.

Also, would most people spend that much upfront and not sign a contract? No.

I am having the same problems with Dish Network. I didn't realize I was under a contract. Isn't it interesting how they have you quickly initial paperwork, when the installer comes?! The installer said it is just formalities stating that he came out today and installed the equipment... All their reps failed to also disclose that I would be under a 24-month commitment! I hope they go under. I don’t know how these people sleep at night, knowing that they are literally screwing everyone they set up service for. Same with Verizon and all those other companies that get you in on a contract and find ways to not let you out…

I must admit dish does suck but you should never sign anything without reading it. Although I no longer have dish. I was aware that when I signed up for a DVR that it was a 2 year lease.........db

I had Dish when we lived in Minnesota and was like this is great because we couldn't get cable because we were so far out in the boonies, but when we moved back to Alaska we have been going back and forth from cable to Dish and back again because I go by the deals and this last time I didn't realize that it was a 24 month contract, and it used to be 12 months, so I signed the papers thinking it was 12 month contract.I was disappointed only because it is over priced and now I am locked into an even longer contract. Well now that Direct TV is available here in Alaska fully once this contract is over I am switching... They ARE over-priced for their packages here in Alaska because we don't get a 1/3 of the channels but pay the same price for those channels. Although I am saving over cable I see that with Direct TV I get more at the same cost. I will definately be switching!!

They (Dish Network) lies! When I got my service (through Windstream Communications) I was told by the salesperson that I would have local channels and would get Fox Sports SW (for Houston teams). My "local" stations are out of Dallas (120 miles away) not Tyler / Longview (60 miles away) and FSN SW is a sometimes deal...sometimes it's there, sometimes it's "premium" channel. Go figure. I'll be glad when my contact is over.

I HAVE BEEN A DISH CUSTOMER FOR 2 1/2 YEARS AND AM SO DISGUSTED WITH THEM AT THIS POINT I AM CONSIDERING SWITCHING TO DIRECT. I LIVE IN A MOTOR HOME FOR ECONOMIC REASONS AND I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH DISH THE LAST MONTH TO GET SET UP AFTER A FORCED MOVE .THEY CAN'T SEEM TO SEND ANYONE THAT KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO GET THE JOB DONE. AS SOON AS MY SS CHECK ARRIVES I PLAN ON A CHANGE

A couple years ago, a Dish Network Installer did a site survey on my property. He said he was unable to install it, due to possible interference from the trees. He also mentioned that, if I were to go out and buy the equipment, and install it myself, he was sure I could hit the satellite signal. So that is what I did.
As a result, I am the easiest money they ever made! All they had to do was push a button; and now they are collecting $68.99 a month from me.
Because of tree interference, I can only get reception on the 119 satellite; but not on the 110. Hence, I am only getting two-thirds of the channels I have been paying for. And they cannot make any adjustment for that.
Furthermore, HDTV is an impossibility, because Dish Network's HDTV satellite is to the West (which for me is up a hill and into the trees).
I think it is time to make a switch!!

WE have had dish network for quite a number of years, their equipment is very outdated, and there are lots of program problems
day in & day out, I had cable before, and although I think dish network is better, I am going to switch Satellite companies.

I hate Dish Network!!!
They are over priced and their service sucks. My signal keeps going out and I think it is appauling that they charge for such inferior service.

I hate Dish Network. I live in North Carolina but I can only get Virginia local channels. I am a big Panthers fan and I can't watch the game. I can't get out of my contract without paying a fee. The only reason I went with dish network was because of Embark telephone and internet company that told me they would combine services. I would switch to direct today if they would buy out my contract with Dish.

I hate Dish Network they charge you for things they say are under warrenty and when you move it is supposed to be free and then make you sign a 2 year contract just so you cant switch companies. Their picture freezes most of the time and they can't fix it properly. But I'm still thinking of switching to Direct TV.
